eBible.com Privacy Policy

About eBible.com

Your right to privacy is very important to us. We are committed to helping you maintain control over your personal data while fostering the growth of a more interactive, engaging and personalized Web experience.

eBible.com (the "Site") is a Bible and reference online search tool created from the efforts of Thomas Nelson Publishers and Godspeed Computing. We offer customized options such as preferred translation, reference materials, bookmarks and Bible notes. We also recommend additional resources for sale and third party advertisements to enhance each search.

We respect your right to control how much information you provide about yourself. The following Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how we collect, protect and use information we receive from our web site ("www.ebible.com") (the "Site").  This Policy applies only to information collected through this Site and not to information collected offline.

1. Personally Identifiable Information Collected

We do not collect personally identifiable information on our Site unless you voluntarily provide information about yourself via an eBible.com login page, account information page, account settings page, other area of our site or via emails to us. By "personal information," we mean data that is unique to an individual, such as a name, address, email address, credit card number, telephone number, etc. Personal information does not include Bible notes, public posts or comments, feedback or other information that cannot be used to contact you.

Other Information You Provide

eBible.com collects general information you provide including, but not limited to, personal notes and bookmarks. These efforts help you customize eBible.com to be a better study and research tool for you. The content you provide is not sold to or licensed to entities outside of eBible.com without your prior and expressed permission. Occasionally, we may use this content in marketing or publicity activities. We reserve the right to remove inappropriate publicly available content posted to any of our Sites.

Please be aware that anything you post on our blogs, message boards or forums can be accessed by the public and in turn be used to send you unsolicited communications or for another unofficial purpose. If you would like to provide comments to us or have questions you do not want publicly available, email us at privacy@ebible.com.

Invitations to Non-Members

eBible.com members can invite others to see their bookmarks and notes on eBible.com by sending invitation emails via our automated invitation system. We store the email addresses and comments that members provide in order to enable access to the bookmarks and notes for respondents and begin the password creation process. eBible.com does not sell or give away these email addresses or messages to third parties or use them to send communications other than invitations. Recipients of invitations may contact us at privacy@ebible.com to request complete removal of their information from our systems, or to request no invitations ever be sent to them from eBible.com.

Other Collection Options

From time to time, eBible.com, our parent companies or a partner may sponsor online sweepstakes, contests or surveys. Users may be asked to provide personal information, including name, email address or home address or to answer questions in order to participate. We may transfer this information to certain ad partners that you have explicitly requested to receive information from. It will be clear at the point of collection who is collecting the personal information and whose privacy statement will apply.

We require registrants of these promotions to be at least 18 years of age. Persons must be at least 13 years old to sign up for our email lists. Children under 13 are not permitted to join our email lists or register for a sweepstakes. Unless otherwise specified, information you provide for this purpose will only be used in conjunction with the promotion as laid out in the contest or sweepstake rules.

2. Non-Personally Identifiable Information Collected

We may collect anonymous or aggregate information or statistics related to Site usage. These statistics include, but are not limited to, the number of visitors to the Site, the number of page visits and views, words or phrases used in searches and bookmarking, the IP address directly accessing the site, operating system (e.g. Windows XP), browser (e.g. Internet Explorer), referring web sites, and the geographic region of the visitor's Internet service provider. IP addresses are recorded for security and monitoring purposes.  To make emails more useful and interesting and if your computer has the capabilities, we often receive a confirmation if you open or click on a link in an email from us.

We use this information to improve your experience on the Site and what services we provide. In certain circumstances, this information may be shared with third parties. This is in order to provide more relevant services and advertisements to members.

3. How the Information You Provide Is Used

Should you send us your comments or questions via our blog, forum, online form, or via email to any email address provided on our Site, we will only share your communications with our employees or agents most capable of addressing your questions and concerns.  We will retain your communication until we have done our very best to provide you with a complete and satisfactory response and then we will either discard or archive it.

We will only disclose personal information if we are required to do so by law or we, in good faith, believe, that such action is necessary to (1) comply with the law or with legal process; (2) protect and defend our rights and property; (3) protect against misuse or unauthorized use of the Site; or (4) protect the personal safety or property of our users or the public. We do not sell, rent or otherwise disclose personally identifiable information you provide without your consent.

For example, if you send us an email or contact us through our support web site, we may use the information you provide to follow up via telephone or email as it relates to that issue. The information you provide will be kept confidential and will be used only to support your continued relationship with eBible.com.

If you join one of our email lists, we will only use your information to notify you about specials, new features, or other information related to eBible.com. We will not sell or give your information to parties outside of eBible.com and our parent companies without notifying you first and receiving your expressed permission. You may choose not to receive email from us via your eBible.com "Settings" or by selecting the removal option at the bottom of any notice we send you or by emailing us directly at privacy@ebible.com.

Shipping and handling is provided by third party vendors. This includes fulfilling orders, delivering packages, sending postal mail and customer service. Personal information necessary to perform these functions are transferred. Examples include analyzing data, removing repetitive information from customer lists, providing search results, providing links and processing credit card payments. They have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes.

4. Cookies

eBible.com uses "cookies" to keep track of your browser between sections of the site. Cookies are small text files using alphanumeric characters created by the Site, and are placed on your computer in your Internet browser's temporary Internet files location. When you log in, an encrypted form of your email address and password are contained in this file, as well as a string of characters that uniquely identifies your browser. We encrypt the information so that no one but the Site can read the file. In cases when you do not log in, we use cookies to store only the string of characters to make browsing through our site more effective.

You can disable your browser's ability to accept cookies. If you choose to do so, some Site features will not function properly. Since all browsers vary, refer to your browser's Help information to discontinue the use of cookies or to be notified that a cookie is being set. If you have further questions, feel free to email us at privacy@ebible.com.

5. Security

Account information and any personalized features on the Site are secured via user-created username and passwords. We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software to encrypt your personal information during transit when you add or modify your information via our web site. The information stored in our database is protected by commercially reasonable methods. Only employees that support eBible.com have access to your personal information. When buying from us, your credit card information is not stored in our databases. We use state of the art ecommerce security by VeriSign, a leading ecommerce security provider, to service the transaction. To protect against unauthorized access to your password and information when using a shared computer, be sure to sign off when finished using the Site by clicking the sign off link at the top of any eBible.com page. We offer third-party advertising and links to other web sites. We do not provide any personally identifiable customer information to these advertisers or their-party web sites. Please note that although we use commercially reasonable methods, we cannot guarantee the security of your account information. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors may compromise the security at any time.

Please note that when communicating with us via email, unless we expressly advise you otherwise, we cannot guarantee completely secure and private communications between us. Like all unencrypted Internet email communications, your email may be accessed and viewed by other Internet users, without your knowledge and permission, while in transit to us. For that reason, to protect your privacy, please do not use email to communicate information to us that you consider to be confidential. While we strive to protect your personal information, eBible.com cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we will use our commercially reasonable efforts to ensure its security in our internal systems. Depending on the nature of the inquiry, your communication may be discarded or archived. The best way to communicate with us is via the Contact Us section in our support web site (http://support.ebible.com). For additional information about our security measures, please contact us at privacy@ebible.com.

6. Disclosure of Customer Information through Business Transfers

As we continue to develop our business, we may buy, merge or partner with other companies or businesses and, in so doing, acquire customer information. In such transactions, user information may be among the transferred assets. Similarly, in the unlikely event that a portion or substantially all of eBible.com assets are sold or transferred to a third party, the information you have voluntarily provided to us, including your email address, would likely be one of the transferred business assets.

7. Privacy Policies of Web Sites Not Under Our Control

For your convenience, this Site may provide links to various web sites that we do not control. When you click on one of these links, you will be transferred out of our Site and connected to the web site of the organization or company that you selected. We are not responsible for the nature, quality or accuracy of the content or opinions expressed in such web sites, and such web sites are not investigated, monitored or checked for quality, accuracy or completeness by us. Inclusion of any linked web site on the Site does not imply or express an approval or endorsement of the linked web site by us, or of any of the content, opinions, products or services provided on these web sites. Even if an affiliation exists between our Site and a third-party web site, we exercise no control over linked sites. Each of these linked sites maintains its own independent privacy and data collection policies and procedures. If you visit a web site that is linked to from our Site, we encourage you to consult that web site's privacy policy before providing any personal information and whenever interacting with any web site.

8. Access and Correction

You have a right to know about the personal information that eBible.com has collected through your requests as describe above, including the right to correct, amend or delete the information that eBible.com has on file if it is incorrect.
