“forgotten” in What Does The Bible Say About

Forgotten

Forsaken?

It is one thing to feel alone. It is another to feel abandoned. David felt abandoned by the one Person whose support he could least afford to lose—God (Ps. 22:1–2). This extreme sense of being forsaken and forgotten was the terror that Job experienced in the midst of his sufferings (Job 16:11; 30:20) and that Jesus felt in the agony of the Cross (Matt. 27:46).

Yet Psalm 22 offers hope. It assures us that God is acquainted with our suffering, no matter how horrible. He is with us even when we feel most forsaken. Why? Because He is the God who has known us from the womb (Ps. 22:9–10).

This is the unique power of the Christian message—that God knows us personally and intimately. Other religions may affirm God as the Creator and ultimate Ruler of the world. But the God of the Bible is intensely personal. He knows us better than we know ourselves. Even though we may feel abandoned, He never forgets us. He has our sorrows and grief in the center of His heart.
