“abishai” in Nelson's New Illustrated Bible Dictionary
ABISHAI [ah BISH a eye] — the oldest son of Zeruiah, David's half-sister, and brother of Joab and Asahel (2 Sam. 2:18). He was one of David's mighty men (2 Sam. 23:18; 1 Chr. 11:20). He helped David in the fight with Ishbi–Benob the giant (2 Sam. 21:16–17). A headstrong and impulsive man, he nevertheless maintained an unswerving loyalty to David through such crises as the rebellions of Absalom and Sheba (2 Sam. 16:9; 18–20).
