“abihu” in Nelson's New Illustrated Bible Dictionary

ABIHU [a BIH hoo] (he is my father) — second son of Aaron and Elisheba (Ex. 6:23). Abihu was destroyed, along with his brother NADAB, in the Wilderness of Sinai for offering “profane fire” (Lev. 10:1) before the Lord. Exactly why the fire was “profane” is not certain; perhaps Abihu and Nadab rebelled against the authority of Moses and Aaron by presuming to bring an unauthorized offering before the Lord. If so, their action implies pride and arrogance, which the Lord despises.
