There are two ways the gospel will be preached: a) Active; and b) Reactive. Both require action. Here we read that the first step is up to us, we should go and tell people the gospel, not wait for them to ask us. However 1 Peter 3:14-15 also tells us we should be prepared for someone to ask us a question, and that we should respond intelligently. You can not address both situations the same.

There are two ways the gospel will be preached: a) Active; and b) Reactive. Both require action. Here we read that we should always be ready to react: to be able and willing to answer any question about our hope in Jesus. Alternatively we read in Mark 16:15 that we are to also be active, to go and preach to all: we shouldn't just wait for a question.
