2 Corinthians 3:18
18And we, who with unveiled faces all reflectOr contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever–increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
‘You look just like your Granddaddy.’ Those were the words that fell from my Mother’s lips as we ate at a restaurant. That was not the first time I heard that phrase or one similar to it. While visiting the Church I grew up in, everyone said I look more and more like Granddaddy every day. A few days after he died, as I walked into the kitchen, friends of the family all stopped in mid sentence with mouths wide open. I look so much like Granddaddy that they thought I was Granddaddy. The biggest surprise comes when I look in the mirror. I really do look like him. Paul must have glanced in a mirror as he wrote the letter to the Church in Corinth. ‘With uncovered faces, we behold the glory of God as if we are looking in a mirror. Day by day, Glory to Glory, we are being changed more and more into His image by the Holy Spirit.’ Paul is saying that as we worship God we begin to look like God. Wrinkled brows from frowning upon enemies become twinkling eyes and high cheeks from smiling as we bless those that persecute us. Clenched fist become as open hands on the Cross while we sacrifice temporary happiness for eternal joy. Wow. God loves us so much that not only did He send Perfection to die for us, He causes us to look like the essence of Perfection: Jesus. It is easy for me to hear that I look like Granddaddy, for it is hereditary. When was the last time someone told me I reminded them of Jesus? After all, hereditary means it is uncontrollable because it is in your blood. Is not Calvary a matter of Blood? If I am dipped in His Blood, I should look like the carrier of the Blood. Have I ever heard someone say, ‘you sounded just like God when you said that’? When was the last time you heard it? Do you walk like your Savior? Have your words been formed into His? Are your thoughts the ideals of Heaven? What a compliment to hear. ‘You look like your Father.’
