Acts 9:17
17Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord–Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here–has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
Here we read about Paul recieving the Holy Spirit. A quick reader realizes that there is no mention of tongues in this verse. However, we know for certain that the great Apostle Paul did speak in tongues because he said he did "...more then you all..." in 1 Corinthians 14:18. The 3 passages that we have already read (started in Acts 2:4) would establish that he probably spoke in tongues at this point. This is how Ananias knew he was indeed filled with the overflow of the Holy Spirit. He began at some point speaking in tongues; it follows Biblical pattern to think that it was at this point. Acts 10:44
44While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.
Acts 10:44-46: This is a 2nd time (started in Acts 2:4) that the infilling of the Holy Spirit was accompanied by speaking in tongues. Peter knew that they were all filled with the Holy Spirit because he heard the sign, they spoke in tongues. (Type: Acts 19:1 & click "Search Bible" button)

Paul in Ephesus
1While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples
Acts 19:1-6: For the 3rd time (started in Acts 2:4) we see the pattern of speaking in tongues as a sign in connection to believers recieving the Holy Spirit. (Type: Acts 9:17 & click "Search Bible" button)

Acts 2:4
4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tonguesOr languages; also in verse 11 as the Spirit enabled them.
I know that there are people who don't believe in speaking with other tongues and in some circles people can get rude about their positions on the subject. I would like to just attempt in giving some reasons for my position on speaking in unkown tongues, not to condemn, but just look at why I believe and practice it. The initial evidence for believers being filled & overflowing in the person of the Holy Spirit is speaking with the outward sign of tongues. That's what happened to the 120 in the Upper Room. I want to establish a Biblical pattern for speaking in tongues when believers are Baptized in the person of the Holy Spirit. (Type: Acts 10:44 & click "Search Bible" button).

Acts 8:21
21You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.
Acts 8:14-21: I want to draw your attention to the word "...matter..." in this verse. It comes from the Greek word "logos", which is known to mean words both written or spoken. We could safely translate this portion of this verse with "...in this matter of speaking for your heart..." and not take away anything from the original Greek meaning in this translation of the word "logos". Based on the previous verses (started in Acts 2:4) we can say that Simon both saw and heard the believers speak in tongues and wanted to buy that same power. Acts 8:18
18When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money
Acts 8:14-21: What was it that Simon saw? It was something he could physically recognize because he wanted to purchase the power to do the same thing on other people. Based on the previous 4 passages (started in Acts 2:4) we can say he probably both seen and heard the believers speaking in tongues. A quick reader might say, "There is no mentioning of tongues in these passages of Scripture." (Acts 8:14-21) (Type: Acts 8:21 click "Search Bible" button)

Acts 8:14
14When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.
Acts 8:14-21: This is now the 5th time (started in Acts 2:4) we read about believers in the early church being saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. (Type: Acts 8:18 and click the "Search Bible" button)
