In the discussion between those who disagree on the age of the earth it should be noted that while the Bible provides a timeline for most of history there is one gap in which a historical period is absent - the duration in which Adam and Eve resided in the Garden. It is impossible to demonstrate that this was a prolonged period, but it is also impossible to demonstrate that it was a short period. Thus in-between the six days of creation and the fall there is an indeterminable amount of time progression.
