1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus, The main topic of 2 Timothy is to "Guard what was entrusted". The gospel was entrusted to Timothy as Paul was in prison awaiting death.
Why was it important to guard the word of truth. Because God gave us a Spirit of Power, Love and Self-discipline; we were given a Holy calling which is used to abolish death and bring life to immorality to light through the gospel (1:7,10)
How are we to guard this treasure - by hardship like a soldier, farmer, athlete. In reproof, in rebuke and in exhortation.
