Lamentations 3:33
33For he does not willingly bring afflictionor grief to the children of men.
33For he does not willingly bring afflictionor grief to the children of men.
Lamentations is full of the effects of the wrath of God. God's chosen people had sinned time and time again, and now God had to chastise those He had chosen. As great as the wrath of God was, the writer had to bring out one point, "He does not like to punish people or make them sad (New Century Version)." Although the pain was necessary, He did not grin when He spanked. Spare the rod, spoil the child, but He did not enjoy it. The pain was out of love, not out of laughter. He chastises those He loves.

20When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved.
20When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved.
Their disobedience caused the Light from Heaven not to shine, which in turn caused heaven's lights to turn off. Their disobedience was prerequisite to their despair. If they would not hear the man of God, they would not be protected by the presence of God. Sin against God leads to separation from God.
