This is what I suggest about using this prayer as a format for which we the believer can pray for others & ourselves: “That the God… may give unto (Group’s name, Person’s name & Yourself) the spirit of wisdom and…” You just replace the “pronouns” in the Scripture prayer to fit the group, person or yourself. God will open so much to those you pray for and yourself if you consistently pray this prayer.

Paul was letting the Ephesian church know how much he loved and thank God for them. Church history reveals to us that this church, started during Paul’s Second Missionary Journey (A.D. 49-52). It was the premier church of its day. The writings from this book are some of the most profound in all the Epistles ever written and it has always given me the idea of what a mature church should be like. The church of Ephesus is where Timothy, who was the young Pastor ministered, Apostle John was a member of this church & Mary the mother of Jesus, who was also cared for by John, was a member too. Jesus was the oldest son in the family so Mary was His responsibility in the absence of Joseph, which He gave over to John while still alive on the cross.
In the second part of verse 16, we see Paul beginning to pray for the Saints. I want to drop this thought into your heart, if this is the way Paul would pray for people then let’s consider that we pray the same for other people and even ourselves. This is a Scriptural way to pray from the Bible. Keep in mind that there are many different kinds of ways to pray, mentioned in our Bible (Check my notes about prayer in Romans- Type: Rom 8:26 Click: “Search Bible”).
