Israel cries out to the LORD, and he answers their cry--but He seems only mildly sympathetic, reminding them of the things that He had done. Who were the Midianites when compared to the power of Egypt when she had enslaved the Israelites? But Israel was not entirely innocent, because they had not obeyed the LORD while they dwelled in safety. Still, He proves Himself faithful to preserve Israel (as we see later) to show His glory and immense patience.
