this passage is so revealing of GOD's nature.
GOD tells Moses that HE is the I AM. those two words reveal the eternity and the self-existing power of GOD.
GOD did say 'I was' nor did HE say 'I will be'--HE said "I AM" which implies that HE is eternal...HE never fades away. There is no beginning to GOD and no end. Like HE says in Revelation 1--I AM the Alpha and Omega-the Beginning and that End!
