1For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. In the old testament, "Israel going through the Red Sea, being led by the cloud and fire; partaking of the bread from heaven, and the water from the smitten rock," intertwines with this verse which "Typified the Christian as he walks to the heavenly Canaan. Baptism, like Israel having passed through the sea, separates from the old life of bondage, and commences a new life in Christ's Service." (Louis F. Were, Certainty of the three angels message)
