Romans 7:22-23
22For in my inner being I delight in God's law;
It is so nice that Paul writes so honestly here. This is "so missing" from the idealism that is often pursued or preached today.

Romans 7:16-18
16And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.
So our nature becomes separate from our actions. I wonder how. I am not quite sure I understand Paul here. I could parrot what he is saying, but I don't quite understand it

Romans 7:13
13Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! But in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
the law proves sin is bad. Our awareness of it, on one hand, entices us, and on the other hand, destroys us. It is God's will, because it returns us to a place where we become aware of our need to be utterly dependent upon God

Romans 7:5
5For when we were controlled by the sinful nature,Or the flesh; also in verse 25 the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death.
hehe, Hey Dad, it WAS fun breaking the rules. left without rules, there is less of a charge doing what is wrong.

Romans 3:31
31Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.
Established as a guide that puts us in safe positions and allows our life to be peaceful and ordered and full of expressions of love and reflections of God - That is what the law becomes when we are freed from it's condemnation.

Romans 3:25-26
25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement,Or as the one who would turn aside his wrath, taking away sin through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished–

Romans 3:24
24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Look where this book has come. First, it started with him railing against sinners - then he points out that we all are such sinners, and all that we condemn in others, we are - then, having been humbled and quieted, he remembers the work that makes it so we are redeemed for our shortcomings. It is not by our hand, but by Jesus'

Romans 3:22
22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,
There is not distinction in God's eyes between one who is redeemed (by Christ's sacrifice) and one who has fulfilled the law (which none of us have)

Romans 3:20
20Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.
this is the purpose of the "law". It shows us all to be lacking and in need of the redemptive work of Christ

Romans 3:9-18
No One is Righteous
9What shall we conclude then? Are we any betterOr worse? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin.
I book mark this because every time I think that I have it all together, I want to remember that I don't. And every time I see someone who thinks they are living right, I want to remember that they aren't. this humbling perspective keeps me attentive and repentant and aware of the importance of the redemptive work of Christ.
