One Biblical meaning of the word equip is to "mend nets" (Matthew 4:21). It has to do with "the bringing of the saints to a condition of fitness for the discharge of their functions in the body" (The Epistle of Paul to the Ephisians, P. 120.) Equipping carries the idea of:
mending church members
fitting them
teaching them
molding and
training them
to utilize their God-given gifts and talents
"So what, then, is the role of the pastor? ...his primary responsibility is to equip members to become mature Christians..."
