Ezekiel 38:23
23And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’
God's stated reason for destroying Gog is the same as His stated reason for saving Israel. That His name may be glorified, and that He may show His greatness among the nations. Again, what we're seeing is God's answer to the "great controversy" accusations of Satan.

Ezekiel 36:22
22“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone.
“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Sovereign LORD, when I show myself holy through you before their eyes. It may seem a bit silly that God needs to vindicate His character. But the great conflict in the universe is between God and Satan specifically about God's character. Some of the wonderful, amazing things God does for us is not for our benefit, but for the benefit of His holiness, His glory, His integrity, and His universal reputation - "for His name's sake"

Exodus 14:1-4
Chapter 14
1Then the LORD said to Moses,
God told Moses to lead the people into an impossible situation (and He didn't tell Moses in advance how to get out). What God did tell Moses was that by getting into the impossible situation, he was setting things up so that God could do something miraculous that would give Him great glory. I'm very reluctant to lead my church (or family, or friends) into impossible situations. They trust me to know where I'm going. They trust me to have a plan. Perhaps, by being safe, I'm not allowing God to do miraculous things. Of course, there's no need to be foolhardy either - and go places that God has not commanded. Our impossible situation is God's opportunity to do something miraculous. Lord, help me to listen to your leading and be willing to go impossible places and do impossible things for you.
