Romans 6:19
19I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever–increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.

What a great way to look at things. You are forgiven, now feed that which let's that forgiveness shine in your life. Don't wallow in the destructive sin that un-hinges you - you are free! See it and act on it. It makes this hard life - palatablely hard.

Romans 6:16
16Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey–whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

again, Paul puts it much better than I put it in my previous comment. We can't say we believe something and then act differently. I mean, we can, but we are just fooling ourselves. Our beliefs may not be what we are willing to admit. Reminds me of the verse - I would that you were hot or cold, but because you are luke warm, I will spew you out of my mouth - Okay - rough paraphrase - But I think I understand God's perspective better. We are what we do. We act on our beliefs. Our beliefs are not what we say with our deceptive tongue, but what is evident from our actions.

Romans 6:14
14For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
14For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
It is what we believe that is pointing us to how we act. How we act gives us a hint as to what we actually believe

Romans 6:11
11In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Again, it is how we view things that change how we act. If we see ourselves this way, it changes how we respond to life - and to ourselves. What are the lusts of my life. What am I clinging too in place of clinging to the hope afforded by the grace of God.

Romans 6:8
8Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

Here is where it is. We must believe and act on that belief. What if it hasn't quite sunk in yet...I guess that is why we are to read his word. It will help us learn so that we can believe. Lord let me drink this as milk. Let me assimilated this into my life so that the fruit you promise becomes evident.

Romans 4:20
20Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,

What should I believe like this? Do I remember what was promised to me? Life beats us down. We look at the circumstances. We no longer can see the dreams of our youth... But think of this, God didn't even give him the promise until Abraham was OLD - A lot older than I... Now that is marinating. That is putting him through it. Am I able to follow this example of patient faithful waiting? That is a life time spent; Years of vitality seemingly waisted. But how can you call his life waisted, look at what he is the father of.

Ephesians 6:13-18
13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

One of my all time favorite passages. I was first introduced to it in Pilgrim's Progress. Beautiful word picture

Romans 5:1-5
Chapter 5
Peace and Joy
1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, weOr let us have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, It is a great interaction between all of these emotions and characteristics. It gives us hope as we see our faith and assurance build as we persevere through trials... What a hopeful perspective we can adopt

Romans 4:24
24but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness–for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

Interesting, our faith is to be directed at the Father, Not the Son nor the Holy Spirit. One could say that they are all one, yet different. Our prayers and faith are to be directed to the Father.
