1 Timothy 6:12
12Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

lay hold on eternal life: Eternal life is viewed as a free gift (John 3:16; Eph. 2:8–10), a present experience (John 10:10), and a reward (Mark 10:29, 30; Luke 18:29, 30). Here Paul is not speaking of Timothy's salvation, but instead of his fruitfulness in this life and his rewards in the next. The good confession is Timothy's call and ministry. Paul was urging Timothy to continue his ministry of preaching the Word of God.

15Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners–of whom I am the worst.

Paul summarized the heart of the gospel (v.11): Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. World refers to all humanity. Save means to deliver or rescue. Christ came to die for the sins of humanity. of whom I am chief: Paul saw the degradation of sin and understood the sinfulness of human beings. Because of this, he placed himself first among sinners.

1 Timothy 1:13
13Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.
13Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.
Before Paul trusted in Christ as Savior, he was a blasphemer, speaking against God; a persecutor, pursuing Christians like a hunter pursuing his prey (Acts 8:3; 9:1–5); and an insolent man, a violent person acting out of personal pride. but I obtained mercy: If the apostle Paul could find mercy after the terrible things he did against Christ, then God surely offers salvation with “open arms” to all people (2:4).
