Matthew 5:17
The Fulfillment of the Law
17“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. This verse seems to make an excellent case for those followers of Christ who also keep the Jewish law.

1Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children For many years now, I have kept coming back to this passage, in order to figure out exactly how I should live my life as a Christian. Lord knows I have not always been successful...

Even though I enjoy much of Eugene Peterson's work, his translation of the Lord' Prayer in The Message may just be the worst one ever done. Absolutely awful! (See this passage in The Message to see what I mean.)

Even though I don't quite consider myself an "old man," I do have plenty of gray hair! I find this verse to be a tremendous salve to my ego.

Although this verse is about inspiration, it does NOT support plenary verbal inspiration of the Old and New Testaments. At the time this epistle was written, "scripture" would have referred to the Hebrew Scriptures only, as the New Testament had not yet been written. Using this verse to "prove" a particular kind of inspiration is, I believe, misuse of scripture.

1 Corinthians 13
Chapter 13
Love
1If I speak in the tonguesOr languages of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. A beautiful passage: this is Paul at his absolute best.
