FAITH IN WHAT WE DON’T SEE
Hebrews 11:32-38
How difficult it is at times to trust in God and believe unwaveringly in His promises. The harsh reality is that often times the child of God must suffer many persecutions because of their faith. They through patience must wait seemingly forever on the things hoped for but not seen. The wife who believes that her alcoholic husband will be saved and delivered or the mother waiting on the return of her son from prison, or perhaps the child who has been abandoned, that wonders when his parent will come back. In many of these cases it would appear cases time is not their friend rather an enemy. What about the injustices of this world? Many of us can’t even phantom the level of cruelties which are capable from the hearts of men.
Should we be most amazed at the wickedness of human nature, that it is capable of thinking up such awful cruelties to inflict upon their fellow-man? Or stand in ewe at the excellence of Divine grace, which is able to sustain, yes even raise up the faithful under such acts of cruelties, and to carry them safely through them all?
Many times we think, “Oh how awful it was back in the early days of the Church when Christians were persecuted for their faith, thrown in Lions dens, sawed in half, torn apart on torture racks, beheaded, boiled in oil and left out on an island to die alone. Times aren’t so much different today. Just look around you it’s everywhere, in the newspapers, on the radios and televisions, people talking about it over their workstations, in the restaurants on the streets at the bus stop. Some of the evil imaginations of men, their compulsion to inflict these thoughts and desires upon an innocent human being, whether child or adult it makes not difference. How does one live in a world which has such little respect for human life and even less for someone who calls themselves A Christians.
I am persuaded that it is only by the grace of God that one can truly survive the wickedness of this world. My heart is saddened for those who, have come to know the God we serve, and are relying only on intellect to survive. You know street smarts, that which you acquire from life’s brutalities, which teach one hopefully how to avoid the next attack, or how to get them before they get you, and by all means trust no one.
What can we glean from the book of Hebrews today? That even though based on the writers account, “Not one of these people, even though their lives of faith were exemplary, got their hands on what was promised. God had a better plan for us: that their faith and our faith would come together to make one completed whole, their lives of faith not complete apart from ours.” (Hebw 11:39-40) That in fact one day we would all see that which we have believed, and sure enough we have, for we have seen the Son of God Himself, Jesus Christ. Now we are approaching that time of season we call Christmas… but in fact isn’t Christmas everyday that a soul (man, women boy or girl) comes to know Jesus Christ; a birth takes place and another child of God is born again. No, it’s not just a season it’s an everyday event.

The Undetected Sacredness of Circumstances
We know that all things work together
for good to those who love God . . .
Romans 8:28
The circumstances of a saint’s life are ordained of God. In the life of a saint there is no such thing as chance. God by His providence brings you into circumstances that you can’t understand at all, but the Spirit of God understands. God brings you to places, among people, and into certain conditions to accomplish a definite purpose through the intercession of the Spirit in you.
Never put yourself in front of your circumstances and say, "I’m going to be my own providence here; I will watch this closely, or protect myself from that." All your circumstances are in the hand of God, and therefore you don’t ever have to think they are unnatural or unique. Your part in intercessory prayer is not to agonize over how to intercede, but to use the everyday circumstances and people God puts around you by His providence to bring them before His throne, and to allow the Spirit in you the opportunity to intercede for them. In this way God is going to touch the whole world with His saints.
Am I making the Holy Spirit’s work difficult by being vague and unsure, or by trying to do His work for Him? I must do the human side of intercession— utilizing the circumstances in which I find myself and the people who surround me. I must keep my conscious life as a sacred place for the Holy Spirit. Then as I lift different ones to God through prayer, the Holy Spirit intercedes for them.
Your intercessions can never be mine, and my intercessions can never be yours, ". . . but the Spirit Himself makes intercession" in each of our lives ( Romans 8:26 ). And without that intercession, the lives of others would be left in poverty and in ruin
Final Thought: As intercessors we must always remain available to be used by the Holy Spirit, remembering that, “He every makes intercession for us all”. To try and intercede without him would be like trying to breathe without lungs, or walk without feet and legs; so it would be should we try to intercede without the leading of the Holy Spirit. Always invite rather insist that He the Holy Spirit joins you when you pray, He will always be a welcomed companion to join you in prayer and intercession for those whom you interceder.
He’s always looking for someone to stand in the gap and intercede for mankind and this world we live in. What an honor it is to be not just willing but chosen by Him for such a wonderful task and service. Holy Spirit here am I use me as you will… but be advised He will, are you truly ready? Only you know for sure.
Keep in mind:
“The poor have a better relish of their enjoyments, and are often more thankful for them, than the rich. In like manner the proud and self-sufficient disdain the gospel; but those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, find comfort from the meanest book or sermon that testifies of Christ Jesus.” (Pr 27:8)
