The New English Translation (NET Bible), First Edition is a newcomer in the field of recently published Bibles. What set this version apart from many others are the clear, modern language that it is written in and the wealth of information that it is packed in this edition. There are over 60,000 notes from the translators and over 700 references to other works that serve as powerful tools and essential aids for in-depth, biblical study.
A good example of this can be found in the translator notes of Acts 2: 38:
The verb is a third person imperative, but the common translation “let each of you be baptized” obscures the imperative force in English, since it sounds more like a permissive (“each of you may be baptized”) to the average English reader.
The translators strive to clear up any doubt or confusion that the average reader may come across. Translators’ notes may also include the Greek, Hebrew or Aramaic meanings and their text in their native tongue. Their direct and detailed explanations provide deeper meaning to the scriptures. The writing flows clearly and elegantly.

John 17:3
3Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Eternal life begins when we personally know God.

Romans 2:5
5But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.

There have been times that I've not done well spiritually. God has always been patient with me.
My heart tends towards being ungrateful and hard. God waits for me to change. I need to imitate God's patience towards me and reflect this towards myself and my own family.

Ephesians 4:29
29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
We are accountable for our actions and our speech. We must be aware of words that we use as disciples and even words that we may hear from disciples who have displayed ungodly speech.
This is the best definition of communication: "...that it may benefit those who listen".

Zephaniah 3:17
17The LORD your God is with you,he is mighty to save.He will take great delight in you,he will quiet you with his love,he will rejoice over you with singing.”
17The LORD your God is with you,he is mighty to save.He will take great delight in you,he will quiet you with his love,he will rejoice over you with singing.”
Awesome passage that displays a range of emotions that God expresses towards us. God's love calms us...
I love reading parallel passages. One version says that God will not speak of our pasts nor recall them. Another describes God calming all of our fears.
I think about a time when my son was an infant. A friend of mine showed me a way to quiet my son's cries. Cole would cry if he was irritated, bothered, tired or afraid. But, he showed me a way to calm him quickly.
He told me to hold his chest against my own so we could feel each other's heartbeat. Every time he'd cry, I'd remember to hold his chest next to mine until I could feel his heartbeat and he could feel mine.
It's the same way with our relationship with God. When we are praying to him, reading his Scriptures...we are more apt to feel his heartbeat. To be quieted in love and to have our fears calmed.

2 Chronicles 7:14
14if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

God will move in our lives, if we are moved to humility. Humility gives God's spirit the freedom to do his will.

Romans 5:6-11
6You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
6You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
Given that today’s Mother’s Day, I want to share a story about my mom: I remember the first and hopefully, only time I got into a car accident… I was 16 and breaking in my new driver’s license …my mom and I were parked outside the bank getting ready to leave. On this day, however, it was raining really hard…we’re talking a torrential downpour…. visibility was poor, the wind was blowing and the rain was crashing and I couldn’t see a thing. Rather than wait until I was certain that it was clear…I gunned the gas pedal and crashed into a Mercedes-Benz. It was totally… my fault. At that time, my life flashed before my eyes. Not because I crashed into a car…but, because I was afraid of what my father was going to do to me BECAUSE I crashed into the car
I imagined what my father was going to say to me when I got home…I imagined his angry face and even more angry posture…I imagined never making it to my 18th… I imagined my dad taking out his belt and whipping me good. Even though I was 16 years old, my dad had a deadly combination…he was Filipino, hard-core and old school…
On our way home, I was silent and afraid. I’ll never forget my mom telling me to stop the car. Then, she told me that we needed to switch places…that she’d take the driver’s seat and I was in the passenger seat. She told me that she knew how my dad was going to react when we got home and the kind of beating I was going to receive. She told me that my dad would never do that to her…so, she took my place and took the blame…sparing me from punishment. I’ll never forget that time, when my mom took my place so that I could be spared the pain and punishment.
What my mom did reminds me of a passage:
Romans 5:6-11
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Similarly, as with my mom’s example but in ways more infinitely greater than our minds and our hearts could comprehend…
Jesus…took our place…instead of our being rightfully judged for our sins, he, instead, chose to be judged in our place. But, since he’s without sin, we, too, will be considered as without sin. As a result, we should never doubt God’s grace and love for us…no matter what the circumstance.
As Christians, no matter what happens around us…we need to live lives of victory…confidence…assurance…joy…peace. Why? Because Jesus died and took our place. And, when he took our place, he removed our sin…our guilt…our embarrassment…. our pain…and our shame.
When God looks at us…he sees Jesus in our place. Some people think that this is a metaphor…but, we know that this to be a life-saving reality.
Why else would we endure hardship and sacrifice?
…why else would we fight Satan and sin?
…why else would we put our hope for today in the heaven of tomorrow?
…why else would we look forward to fellowship with God at the end of our lives…and look forward to our times with God in our day-to-day lives?
Why?
ð Because Jesus died for our sins… and set us free!
ð The question is: How do we live life today? Free or imprisoned?
Story: There was a Study of fish taken from the ocean. These fish were transplanted into a tank that replicated their living conditions as much as possible.
The only difference: the fish were encased in an aquarium that only allowed them to swim 10 feet in every direction. Initially, the fish, who were used to swimming without any boundaries, kept bumping into the aquarium walls. Eventually, they got used to their surroundings and learned to navigate through the waters 10 feet this way…10 feet that way…10 feet any-way!
After a few months of living in this walled in existence, they were set loose back into the ocean. The scientists observed that although they were set free and could swim any distance…they were only swam 10 feet this way…10 feet that way…10 feet any-way!
The fish…they didn’t know any better. They got so used to living a certain way…even when they were set free…they lived as if imprisoned in a cage.
As Christians, when we forget Jesus’s sacrifice…we could be the same way. As we break the bread and drink of the fruit of the vine… remember what God, through his son Jesus, has done for us…and live a life this week, that shows our freedom through Christ.
