Chapter 15
The Year for Canceling Debts
1At the end of every seven years you must cancel debts. God's rules with Israel show his values. There need not be poor people among us because he has given us enough. But Human nature means we will always have the poor so it is our responsibility to care for them.

Romans 12:2
2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.

We can be transformed, fully different. This process starts with our understanding and grows throughout our existence.

Nehemiah 2
Chapter 2
Artaxerxes Sends Nehemiah to Jerusalem
1In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before; Nehemiah begins to get others involved in rebuilding Jerusalem. He doesn't rush in but uses the opportunities God gives him and prays.
He is confident that God's hand is on him and that God will give him what he needs.
As he prays, talks and plans he manages to get others to help him, first the King and then people back in Isreal.
They still meet with opposition, but a confident that God is with them.
May I react as well to the difficulties and problems in this world that confront me. And may I share Nehemiah's confidence that when I act for God, he is with me.

Nehemiah's Prayer
1The words of Nehemiah son of Hacaliah:In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of Susa, Nehemiah sees a situation and decides to act. He doesn't moan, or criticize but prays and then does something - he becomes a solution.
His assessment of the situation in Jerusalem could describe life for many today - "the walls are broken and the gates have burned down".
How will I react when I see evidence of brokeness today? Do I pray and act positively or allow myself to remain part of the problem?

48You are witnesses of these things.
As soon as Jesus commissions them the disciples srping into action... wait a minute, no they don't. Jesus tells them to rest, to wait for the spirit to come to help them. So they take a few weeks to worship together, make sense of things and wait for God. Why do we try to do anything different?
