Chapter 3
Jesus Teaches Nicodemus
1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council.2He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

3In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.Or born from above; also in verse 7

4“How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!”

5Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the SpiritOr but spirit gives birth to spirit.7You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘YouThe Greek is plural. must be born again.’8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

9“How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.

10“You are Israel's teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things?11I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony.12I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?13No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven–the Son of Man.Some manuscripts Man, who is in heaven14Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,15that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.Or believes may have eternal life in him

16“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,Or his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.Or God's only begotten Son19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”Some interpreters end the quotation after verse 15.

It is by Christ that we may approach the Throne of Grace. Christ is His only true Son, He made Salvation a free gift in such a way that all we must do is look to Christ as mediator to our Loving God, Abba Father. Thank-you Lord!

Christianity is the only religion I know of that claims that God loves you as a person. It tells you that your life and your words and deeds matter. What a God we serve!

Why God sent Jesus to earth. Because He loved us. ;-) Why God sent His Son to earth to die. God built a bridge between Heaven and earth with two rugged boards and three nails. Jesus is the second tree of life, for he hung from a tree suspended between Heaven and earth. all we have to do is to accept Him as our Lord and Savior. if we don't accept His gift to us, i won't do us any good. His gift, the gift of Salvation through His Son Jesus Christ. His gift to us has our name on it, but it won't do us any good if we don't believe. we have to believe with our whole heart, totally believe in Him, fully believe in the Gospel story. Jesus is God's Christmas present to man.

This is all the meaning wrapped up in one verse. It represents the unsurmountable love displayed in the ultimate sacrifice made by my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. God sacrificed His Son so that I might live. All I have to do is acknowledge it, accept it, and live it.

We talk about God's love to others all the time, and often with good intentions. But we must be careful that when we assure people of God's love, we have this verse in mind -- that the means through which we have come to know the deep love of God our Father is through the person and work of the Lord Jesus. This is not to say that the first part of the verse is untrue -- that "God so loved the world' -- because Jesus seems to be saying that the Father's unmerited love is the only beacon of hope for the world. However, the next verses make it clear that no true knowledge of this love can be held except by the Spirit working in us the faith that responds to the call of the Gospel. Before we came to faith in Christ, we were outside of God's covenant of love and pardon, and could never have known any real assurance of favor due to God's hatred of sin--we '...were by nature children of wrath' (Eph. 2:3). Our responsibility to the fallen world is clear: the 'Son of Man must be lifted up' (v.14) in order that all may believe in him and know the hope of present freedom and life because of the Lord Jesus. [for some real meaty stuff, read Calvin's commentary on this verse. ccel.org]

What world did Jesus come to give His live for, but "the ungodly multitude; the whole mass of men alienated from God, and therefore hostile to the cause of Christ"? Whoever believes will have everlasting life-- believes what? in the name of Jesus, the only-begotten Son of God. Believing and faith are closely related if not synonomous and come from hearing the Gospel.

This is the most well known scripture in the Bible,I don't think I have ever met anyone who did'nt know it. It tells the whole story about Jesus in one sentence. Whenever I meet a person that I don't know, I always ask them if they know this verse.I like the expression on thier faces when they say they know it, But do they really know it?

"God desires fellowship and companionship with you. What a wonderful gift the Father has given, yet if God gave His own Son to provide an abundant and everlasting life, why don’t more people have what He has designed for us to receive? It is a question answered by this sobering realization"-Bennyhinns: http://www.bennyhinn.org/salvation/)

For God so loved His Creation (made in the image of God) that God gave his only Son Jesus (made in the image of God) with all the same authority and power as the FATHER GOD to die upon the cross for His Creations reconciliation back to Himself and all the Creation has to do is Believe in what Gods Son Jesus Christ did upon the cross and for this the Creation is awarded Everlasting Life and what was lost to the devil back in Genesis our fellowship with God and our authority over sickness, disease and poverty are given back to the New Creation in Jesus Christ. That is true Salvation.
