Psalms 133:1

study / save / / memorize

Psalm 133
A song of ascents. Of David.
1How good and pleasant it is
when brothers live together in unity!
2It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron's beard,
down upon the collar of his robes.

3It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the LORD bestows his blessing,
even life forevermore.

I had this verse in mind as I was perusing the story of the Tower of Babel. The same idea is continued here: brethren dwelling in unity/ people as one with one language. It is good and pleasant! Yet why did God confound the people mentioned in Genesis?

God's desire is stated from the beginning in Genesis 1, that He would have a people in His Image and after His likeness. Adam and Eve joined in this pursuit of becoming One. BUT this must be in the context of God and not of ourselves. Babel was a continuation of the Fall. We will be AS God, i.e., instead of, without, in place of. We don't need God. We are gods. The LORD cannot allow this to happen, but He still desires a people to come into His own likeness and Image. So, in Christ, we now can become One in Him. I trust this short note helps, but let's take it further. This is actually the subject of my continuing saga book...

It's a good thing for Christians to fellowship together.
