Proverbs 3:5

study / save / / memorize

Chapter 3
Further Benefits of Wisdom
1My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,

2for they will prolong your life many years
and bring you prosperity.

3Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.

4Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.

5Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.Or will direct your paths

7Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and shun evil.

8This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.

9Honor the LORD with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;

10then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.

11My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline
and do not resent his rebuke,

12because the LORD disciplines those he loves,
as a fatherHebrew; Septuagint / and he punishes the son he delights in.

13Blessed is the man who finds wisdom,
the man who gains understanding,

14for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.

15She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.

16Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.

17Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.

18She is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
those who lay hold of her will be blessed.

19By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations,
by understanding he set the heavens in place;

20by his knowledge the deeps were divided,
and the clouds let drop the dew.

21My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment,
do not let them out of your sight;

22they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.

23Then you will go on your way in safety,
and your foot will not stumble;

24when you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

25Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,

26for the LORD will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from being snared.

27Do not withhold good from those who deserve it,
when it is in your power to act.

28Do not say to your neighbor,
“Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow”—
when you now have it with you.

29Do not plot harm against your neighbor,
who lives trustfully near you.

30Do not accuse a man for no reason—
when he has done you no harm.

31Do not envy a violent man
or choose any of his ways,

32for the LORD detests a perverse man
but takes the upright into his confidence.

33The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked,
but he blesses the home of the righteous.

34He mocks proud mockers
but gives grace to the humble.

35The wise inherit honor,
but fools he holds up to shame.

"Lean not unto thine own understanding". This verse is letting us know that in trusting the Lord, we are also required to lean on his understanding (because our understanding is limited, but God knows all). When we make decisions alone we are most likely to make the wrong one, but with God's help we can know that he is making the right decision for us.

Trust in God, because He has ALL the answers. He created us, so how could we be smarter than Him?

Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart. We don't know all. We can't grasp even the smallest part of what God knows. He is bigger than anything you can imagine. So why not give up your life to someone who is that big, mighty, powerful, and all-knowing. He will take care of us always.

In the beginning, when God made man, He gave him dominion over everything, and gave him instructions; but man went his own way. So many a time, man will want to go his own way. If only we can trust Him (GOD), we will not miss it. God gave Abram instruction; he followed it to the latter, even when it seemingly did not make sense. Because Abraham Obeyed, it was counted to Him as righteousness. Jeremiah 29v11.

Are you having trouble overcoming your flesh (the nature of man without the Holy Spirit), addictions & emotional issues? I have a few suggestions that will ensure your victory, from a Scriptural perspective: 1) Believe the Bible as God’s definite, unchanging & inspired word. 2) Don’t look to your own or other men’s reasoning (example: psychology), Proverbs 3:5-8 & 16:2-3. 3) Stay away from temptations by cutting them off & out of your lifestyle because you can, Matthew 5:27-30, Philippians 4:13 & Hebrews 12:1-3. 4) Exercise your body, it gives you a sense of well-being, 1 Timothy 4:8-9. 5) Read out loud & to yourself Scriptures every day, plus any other time you may need to throughout the day when you get weak in the spirit of your mind, 1 Timothy 4:15-16. (A list of suggested Scriptures is below, using the Amplified Bible translation that you can start with.) 6) Be accountable to a spiritual believer that the Lord has in your life (Parent, spouse, Pastor, friend, sibling), Galatians 6:1-9. 7) Put on the garment of Praise for the spirit of heaviness, Isaiah 61:3 (Read my notes in eBible.com on verse 3) & Ephesians 5:17-20. 8) Pray both in the Spirit and in your understanding constantly, 1 Corinthians 14:14-15, 17-18; Ephesians 6:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:14-24; Jude 20-21. Bible translation: (The Amplified Bible) Matthew 5:27-30; Romans 8:1-8, 13; Romans 13:13-14; 1 Corinthians 6:18-20; 1 Corinthians 9:25-27; 1 Corinthians 10:6; 2 Corinthians 7:1; 2 Corinthians 10:3-6; Galatians 5:13,16-25; Galatians 6:7-9; Ephesians 4:20-24; Colossians 3:1-10; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8; James 1:19-22; Jude 20-21
