Romans 5:8

play chapter / study / save / / memorize

Christ in Our Place
6For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.
8But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

... And not only we were (are) sinners, but people who have not come to know Christ are also included in this love. Something to keep in mind...

This verse is strengthened so much by the points he makes in the previous two. One would barely die for a good or righteous man, But Jesus died for sinners; Those who didn't do anything to deserve it. This gift makes us not helpless - but free to be saved...

Even though we were not worthy. The Lord Jesus still loved us to die for our sins.

God demonstrates His own love for us, even though we are sinners and beyond reproach to Him, He still wanted us to be with Him, and Jesus offered Himself up for us dirty sinners, thank you.

The punishment for sin is death. But since Christ took the sins of the world upon himself, and conquered death, we are no longer bound to our sin; we are reconciled to God. The ultimate sacrifice - paying the price for someone else.

Pr 16:6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil. Pr 16:7 When a man’s ways are pleasing to the LORD, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him

I don't see where the sacrifice is. After all, Jesus ascended into heaven , didn't he?
