Chapter 12 Living Sacrifices 1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. 3For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.4Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith.7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

...must go even deeper than just behavior and customs; it must be firmly planted in our mind. It is possible to avoid most worldly customs and still be proud, covetour, selfish, stubborn, arrogant. Only when the Holy Spirit renews, reeducates, and redirects our mind are we truly transformed. NLT

transformed by the rewnewing of your mind.
transformed = (lit. or fig.) "metamorphose" change, transfigure. Metamorphose means to change in form or nature. Obviously that nature would be the nature or likeness of Jesus. We are to be conformed into the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29).

The world is fading away, wisdom is what we take with us -- nothing else. Prove ourselves dilegent and make our lives a living sacrifice (His Will be done) that it might be a sweet smelling aroma to the nose of our Father God.

We can't conform to God's standards until we are transformed.
"not be conformed to this world" - a false world system. It is possible to believe in a false and untrue system; in other words to believe a lie!

This verse is an answer to anyone who believes that christians can be apart of the "world" AND apart of God. James 1:8 says, "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways". Revelation 3:16-17 says, "I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." The Lord wants us to sacrifice our worldy desires the way he sacrificed his son for us (John 3:16). 2 Corinthians 17-18, says, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God...". We give up little to gain the kingdom of God.

Believing means following through. Change on the outside should come from within, superficial change gets you nowhere.

The Bible teaches us that we should be thermostats - changing the climate of the culture. But instead of Christians being thermostats, we have become thermometers - conforming to the culture.

The beliefs that we have determine the decisions that we make which help control the outcomes that we have. The way to change the outcomes is to change our beliefs which change the trajectory of our actions.

God is transforming my life and I love it. He tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Being in His word is so important. It's our guide. The only way he can transform us is for us to allow Him.

The phrase "renewing of your mind" is the key to this passage. Before we are saved our way of thinking is bent on sin, but as Christians our mindset should be on new playing field with Christ as our focus.

I believe it is important that we know what the will of God is. That we align our will with His will.
See Romans 9:17, Colossians 1:9, Ephesians 5:15-17 and 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 and 4:3

Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed (ie. worm to butterfly)
by the renewing your mind. Change your thinking to what the Bible says verses what the world says. It reminds me of Philp. 2:5

Just because we live in this world, doesn't mean we have to conform to the worlds power. Our power comes from God and the Savior Jesus Christ who died for our transgressions and our sins.

don't be ashamed. Romans 1:16. We're like cookie dough, and the cookie cutters are like the pattern of the world. We have to break free of that mold and let God shape us into what He wants and planned for us as Christians to be, not for what the rest of the world wants us to be. It's the least we can do for all that He has done for us. <><
