study / save / / memorize

Psalm 46
For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. According toalamoth.Title: Probably a musical term A song.
1God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

3though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
Selah

4There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.

6Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah

8Come and see the works of the LORD,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.

9He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shieldsOr chariots with fire.

10“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

11The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah

Recommended reading: http://crookedshore.typepad.com/crookedshore/2007/12/john-11-3in-the.html From the preceding text, we are given a better understanding of the ancient Hebrew thought regarding the 'waters' in Genesis and their association with chaos. God, being the creator of earth literally has made a refuge amongst the chaos of the universe he brought into existence. We are reminded, each and ever sunrise and sunset, that we are sustained by his invisible hand. When he says fear not, he is not making a poetic or prosaic statement, but a statement of fact. In the midst of all the chaos and turmoil of the universe at large "God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved." Salvation, being the extension of grace to those who would have been destined for destruction, we are given glimpse of a work that has its roots in creation. The first Adam sinned, throwing the world into a state of ruin, but he did not throw it into utter chaos. Christ, the second Adam, came as logos, logic, the word incarnate, to redeem mankind to the Father and by doing so preparing his bride for his return and the eventual restoration of complete and whole order, of logic, within the sphere of his creation. Perhaps the reason Revelation revealed that a new heaven and a new earth would be created was because the chaos without, as an indication that God sustains and upholds, will no longer be necessary. Christ will have fulfilled and united the broken chain, or so it appears to humanity at this point in time. After the fullness of time, perhaps the trinity will reveal their order both within and without work as the final culmination of creative power. What a glorious day that will be.
