Love for Enemies
43“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighborLev. 19:18 and hate your enemy.’44But I tell you: Love your enemiesSome late manuscripts enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you and pray for those who persecute you,
45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?
48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

"If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others?" - Today's NIV. This is the challenge, not to get absorbed into the day-to-day social routines and circles of familiarity. Love is more than that.

again, learning to forgive. I have observed and learned that our own guilt plays a big role in hating our enemies, make sence? A friend or loved one is killed in an accident caused by another person, whats our first human instinct? to hate that person, or blame that person. But I think that if we really want to be honest with ourselves, stop and really think about it, alot of that hate is us hiding our own guilt, what was the last thing said to our loved one that is now dead, did we spend enough time with him, did he know we loved him, did we always do everything we could as Christians to be there for him. Its very easy to hide that guilt behind anger, and it really involves all aspects of our lives: divorce, death, betrayal, losing jobs, things like that. Dont we always make excuses to justify those things that rarely ever reflect poorly or negatively on ourselves? There are many other verses in the scripture to help show how hating, or blaming is not a healthy way to deal with these issues, but above all i feel, if there is that doubt or guilt that we may feel when learning to forgive, we have to first forgive ourselves, and realize, when things happen, its always for the good, something good always comes from that which hurts us. Words cant explain how better we feel if we just forgive ourselves and those that wronged us, and I am here to witness that it works, be honest with yourself, forgive yourself, forgive your enemy, and love your enemy, good will always come of that, that is Gods promise.
