Life by the Spirit 16So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23gentleness and self–control. Against such things there is no law.24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

When the believer places his/her Faith exclusively in Christ and what He did upon the Cross, the Holy Spirit works on our behalf to give us the daily victory over the sin nature.

Being focused on doing right and living and thinking on the good (empowered by the fruits of the Holy Spirit) will keep you from sin.

It's like a seesaw, one end is down, the other is up. Feed the Spirit and the flesh will be deflated. If I'm struggling, I need to double up on my Bible reading, my podcasts, my prayer. I need to walk in the spirit. Make an investment in spiritual activity. In that, the flesh no longer dominates.
I can't overcome the flesh by thinking about the flesh. Thinking, "I'm not going to sin today, I'm not going to do this or that today," will leave you doing nothing but what you intended not to do.

Are you having trouble overcoming your flesh (the nature of man without the Holy Spirit), addictions & emotional issues? I have a few suggestions that will ensure your victory, from a Scriptural perspective:
1) Believe the Bible as God’s definite, unchanging & inspired word.
2) Don’t look to your own or other men’s reasoning (example: psychology), Proverbs 3:5-8 & 16:2-3.
3) Stay away from temptations by cutting them off & out of your lifestyle because you can, Matthew 5:27-30, Philippians 4:13 & Hebrews 12:1-3.
4) Exercise your body, it gives you a sense of well-being, 1 Timothy 4:8-9.
5) Read out loud & to yourself Scriptures every day, plus any other time you may need to throughout the day when you get weak in the spirit of your mind, 1 Timothy 4:15-16. (A list of suggested Scriptures is below, using the Amplified Bible translation that you can start with.)
6) Be accountable to a spiritual believer that the Lord has in your life (Parent, spouse, Pastor, friend, sibling), Galatians 6:1-9.
7) Put on the garment of Praise for the spirit of heaviness, Isaiah 61:3 (Read my notes in eBible.com on verse 3) & Ephesians 5:17-20.
8) Pray both in the Spirit and in your understanding constantly, 1 Corinthians 14:14-15, 17-18; Ephesians 6:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:14-24; Jude 20-21.
Bible translation: (The Amplified Bible)
