The Armor of God 10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.19Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,20for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

The first thing you should see in this passage about receiving God's protection is that our role is not passive. God requires us to be active participants in the spiritual defense that He has provided for us. Notice how often we are commanded to take an active role (emphasis added):
Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might . Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm (verses 10-13).

Whenever Paul writes something down twice, he's really trying to stress a point. In Ephesians 6:11 AND in 6:13 he's telling us to put on the full armor of God so that we may STAND, and then having done all STAND. This is important for all Believers to see, we are to STAND, and we are given the armor of God in order to do so.

We have an active roll to fill. Note the AFTER you have done all that you KNOW to do, then we are told to STAND!

I have heard about spiritual warfare all of my Christian life, but never really understood it or thought about it. Most times, it goes on without our knowledge. However, when you experience it, the struggle, that makes this passage more powerful. I understand it now.
