There is controversy among Christians about whether sexual immorality is truly the only allowable reason for divorce. This verse seems obvious, but what about spouses that are abusive or totally neglect their family? I can't imagine telling a woman that she must stay in a situation where her husband beats her. The answer that Jesus gives is definitely from the perspective of a man. Does that have any bearing on leaving out abuse as a reason for divorce?
