Chapter 2 Jesus Changes Water to Wine 1On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,2and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.3When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”4“Dear woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied, “My time has not yet come.” 5His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”6Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. 8Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so,9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside10and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”11This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.

For someone to say God’s people will run into problems would be an understatement. For someone to agree that God is able to bring us out of problems would make most say ‘duh’! But for someone to say that God’s people are always obedient to his commandments would be a lie. It never fails. Child runs into mess. Child cries to Father. Father hears child’s cry and gives instructions for child to get out of mess. Child does not listen. Mess continues. We could learn a thing or two from Mary and the men at the wedding. The mess: no more wine at the wedding. The advice: Whatever Jesus says for you to do, do it. The result: A miracle. Who would’ve thunk it? Total submission yields total Victory. A simple equation that brought forth natural results. Jesus told them to fill 6 waterpots with water. Look at how much they trusted this Teacher: they filled them UP to the BRIM. Talk about the cup running over. Look at how much Power your God has. Nowhere in the Scripture do you see Jesus touching the water or the pots. He told them to take the water to the governor of the feast. The servants did. As the priest drank the water, it turned into wine. TALK ABOUT POWER! TALK ABOUT FAITH! The servant’s problem was that there was no more wine. Here this Stranger was, telling them to fill some pots with water, they do it, and now He’s telling them to show WATER to a wine-deprived-governor! Because of their total submission, they were totally saved. If only 2 waterpots were filled they would witness only 33% percent of a miracle. If the pots were half filled, their miracle would have been half empty. If they did not take the water to the governor, it would have never turned into wine. Excuse me for asking dumb questions, but if they can trust a Stranger with some ice water, why can’t you trust the Savior with your income? If they can walk with water while they pray for wine, why can’t you hold on to a broken heart while waiting on a rekindled flame? If God is powerful enough to turn the most ordinary of water into the most exquisite of wine, why can He not take the simplest of prayers to the most powerful of all Promises?
