Chapter 2
Jesus Changes Water to Wine
1On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,2and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
3When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”

4“Dear woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied, “My time has not yet come.”

5His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

6Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.Greek two to three metretes (probably about 75 to 115 liters)

7Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.

8Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so,
9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside10and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

11This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.

There are two weddings in the Bible that much emphasis is given to: Adam and Eve's and the couple mentioned in John 2. God was important in both: He officiated the first marriage and saved the second one. John records that there was a wedding on the third day, and Jesus and His crew were invited. Not only was He invited to the wedding, but He was called to the reception. Amazing! It was not enough for God to bless the wedding; He was needed to bless the party as well. Joyful is the party where God dances. Not only was Christ invited, but His disciples received RSVPs as well. If God were to show up, they wanted everything God brings. If you're married, did you invite God to the wedding? You probably did, but did you also invite Him to the reception? The honeymoon? Monday morning at work? Wednesday night dinner? If you want Him to be God, let Him be God every day. Follow the example of this couple; invite all that God has to offer. Do not invite the Power of God but leave out the meekness of God. Do not invite the Protection of God but forget the Love of God. Invite the Savior. Invite the Savior's humbleness. Invite His Peace. Call for His Wisdom. Text message His Favor. Email His Forgiveness. God, bring the whole crew!
