Chapter 3
Jesus Greater Than Moses
1Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.
2He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God's house.3Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.4For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.5Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's house, testifying to what would be said in the future.6But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.

When I read and study Hebrews 3:1, the first thing I notice is: the verse starts with the word “Therefore”, which tells me that this verse cannot reside by itself contextually. The thought in this verse is the direct result of the previous verse(s). In chapter 2, Jesus was identified as the Redeemer, and that regardless of His humble appearance, indeed because of His becoming human, He was able to accomplish His purpose and the will of the Father, and that even as a man, power and dignity had been conferred on him superior to that of the angels1. Verse 3:1 finishes the thought by stating: Therefore, holy brothers, called to be partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus, (Hebrews 3:1 MKJV) That is, that we are to consider Jesus Christ in the position of High Priest of our faith.
