Christ the Wisdom and Power of God
18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
19For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”Isaiah 29:14

20Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom,23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.25For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.

26Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.28He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things–and the things that are not–to nullify the things that are,29so that no one may boast before him.30It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God–that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.31Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”Jer. 9:24

Chapter 2
1When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.Some manuscripts as I proclaimed to you God's mystery2For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.3I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.4My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power,5so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.

This is the reason sometimes it is so hard to explain to some what we are experiencing. Some are hard to hear the truth but it is our mandate to reach out and God will provide for the harvest.

Unbelievers are reffered to as "them that perished", because they have not accepted God as their savior. We know that accepting God as savior gives us power over sin and death. Every believer values the cross and its significance, because therein lies the "power of God" and the power he gives us.

Share the message of the cross with an unbeliever and it will be foolishness to them. Conviction of sin is needed before the message of the cross is delivered. The power of the spirit.

Faith in the The Cross of Christ is the key to living the Victorious Christian Life, (sanctification). The Cross must be preached, because it was there and only there that the total sin-debt was paid.

Scripture: I Corinthians 1 Observation: In verse 18 Paul is speaking to the Corinthians of Christ and the cross. Paul refers to unbeleivers as, "perishing". In verse 18 Paul is esentially saying that the cross holds no significance to the nonbeliever. The nonbeleiver considers the Christians belief in the cross foolish. There are unbelievers who say they believe that Christ lived and was crucified but completely discredit that Christ was and is the Son of God. They do not believe that His death was for the purpose of absolving people of sin. Nor do they believe that Christ rose or that he now sits at the right had of God. I can understand the nonbelievers disbelief and struggle to accept the cross as literal. Like the people of Paul's generation we too require a sign or some form or physical proof of Christ's authenticity. I think of loved ones who struggle with the essence of the cross. As a believer I have been appointed a missionary for Christ. As missionary for Christ it is my job to minister truth and love to my lost loved ones. Prayer: Father mold me into the bold missionary you would have me to be. Unafraid and willing to share Your love and truth with a perishing world. I am thankful that I know the truth. Thank you for delivering me from the darkness and opening my eyes to see. Please Lord continue to minister to my loved ones, minister to their skepticism and fears. I love You Lord amen.
